About Us-Portola HGM

Portola Highly Gifted Magnet
The Portola Highly Gifted Magnet is the only middle-school program in the Los Angeles Unified School District exclusively dedicated to the education of highly gifted students, and one of the few programs across the United States, public or private, to do so.  Students enrolled in the Portola Highly Gifted Magnet benefit from an accelerated academic curriculum taught in a nurturing environment.  In addition to core classes, Portola HGM students learn about the world around them through enrichment trips, extra-curricular activities and through its diverse student population.

Art Meets Science
My students are very creative. They demonstrate their learning by making different products.
My students are highly gifted in one or more areas. My school is a very unique place where these children are stimulated, encouraged and ... more.
My students make models of cell organelles like mitochondrion, nucleus, ribosome, chloroplast, etc. They use their research and imagination to make 3D models of these organelles. They also make models of plasmid, DNA and biomes and land ... more
My students need model magic, water color paints, brushes and other art supplies to make models of cell organelles and Biomes to demonstrate their learning.
