PSAT update

All 175 PSAT tests have been purchased by 8th graders and a few 7th graders, to be taken on Oct 16.  Even if your child did not sign up, they can practice with sample questions at www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/prep.html.  Remember, students will officially take the PSAT when they are in 10th grade.  Portola is just providing it early as an opportunity for practice/preview of the PSAT and the SAT, which they will take in 11th grade.

FYI, for next year, the Principal is considering holding the PSAT on a Saturday so more students can take it without disrupting classes.  If you would prefer this arrangement so your child can participate, please let Ms. Garcia know.

ORIGINAL ANNOUNCEMENT SENT:

Parents and Students: The PSAT is coming to Portola! The test, which is the first official step towards college, will be administered on Wednesday, October 16th, during the school day. This test will help prepare you for the SAT, which is the entrance exam all students take when applying to college. Research shows that students who take the PSAT score higher on the SAT than those who don’t take the PSAT. So, if college is in your future, taking the PSAT is a great way to get off on the right foot.
The cost is $14.00 and you can pay and sign-up at the Student Store. Please either bring cash or a check payable to Portola Middle School. Only 125 tests have been ordered and 8th graders will be given priority when signing up. When you sign up and pay, you will be given a practice study book to help you prepare for the PSAT. Since there are a limited number of tests available, don’t delay in signing up.

If you have any questions, see Ms. Garcia in the Magnet Office. Thank you.
